Sevastopol is on the west coast of Crimea. It is a city of about 300,000 people. It is located one hour and 20 minutes drive from Simferopol.
Sevastopol is the second largest city in Crimea after Simferopol, and is a fascinating town built around an enormous natural harbour. Its boardwalk is lined with elegant buildings and sculptured parks. In summer it comes alive with a bounty of outdoor bars anad nightclubs.
The streets are swarmed every day and night of the week with friendly locals and tourists, all enjoying the long summer nights.
The city has a number of interesting war monuments and museums, dedicated to the Second World War, and to the famous battles of the Crimean war of the 1850's. It is here that the Russian Black sea naval fleet is kept and you can take boat tours that enable you to get a closer look at the fleet, including nuclear submarines.
Sevastopol is a port city, but it has many attractive beaches within its city limits. There is a mixture of sandy and stony beaches. Our favourite is located in north of the city, to which you can take a regular scenic boat ride.
For Ukraine, Sevastopol is an unusually well kept and clean city, largely as a result of the naval influence on the town, and the pride that the locals have in the place that they live.
