Yalta is surrounded by a ring of mountains that cut it off geographically from the rest of the South Black sea coast. Yalta's beach is small and in July and August is packed full of tourists. You won't want to be just sitting on the beach here though; there's so much to see and do. One of the most interesting trips is to the nearby Livadia palace, where you can see where Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin met to re-draw the map of Europe at the end of the Second World War.
